Is there a way the vbox lite can be used to make an estimation of horsepower like the performance box?

Hi Birdy123,

Yes, however this has to be done post process. VBOX Tools has the ability to calculate BHP at the wheels using any Racelogic data logger that can record speed and longitudinal acceleration.

1) Log a file. :Drive:

-Make sure you're testing in a wide open, level area with no trees or buildings.
-In your chosen gear, accelerate hard from low RPM towards the top of the rev range.
-Due to the nature of this test, we strongly recommend you perform this power run on a closed/private road.... :Ghey:

2) Open the logged file in VBOX Tools.

-Open the graph screen facility in order to view the logged file.
-Click on the 'Generate New Channel' button (calculator Icon) to open the maths channel facility.
-Enter the following equation (Below). For this to be as accurate as possible, the user will need an accurate kerb weight of the vehicle as well as anything else inside the vehicle such as the driver, fuel etc...
-Click the 'Generate Channel' button to apply the calculation, Name and state the units and then close the maths channel setup window.
-Next, double click the Graph Data window to bring up a list of data channels. If you scroll to the bottom of the channel list you should see your new channel. Tick this to view it in the graph screen.

To calculate BHP, enter the following equation:

Weight(lbs) X Longitudinal Acceleration (g) X Speed channel (mph) X 0.003054

Have fun!

Jonnie

Hi divace73,

for power in kW please use the following equation:

Weight (Kg) X long Acc (g) X Speed Channel (Kph) X 0.0031107 :Drive:

Can I create a new channel like this in Performance tools as I dont have the vbox tools software. I cant seem to find the icon that looks like a calculator when right clicking in the performance graphs in performance tools.

Hi birdy123,

Unfortunately PerformanceTools doesn't have maths channels functionality :(

VBOX Tools is available to download here: http://www.velocitybox.co.uk/index.php/en/support/40-software.html you'll require your username and password to download it though. :)
