Thread: Does traction control + launch work on the dragstrip?

Default Does traction control + launch work on the dragstrip?

Hello, I'm thinking of buying RLTC with launch to help my ET and 60ft. Right now I spin a lot off the line. I have small engine (1.8) so I cannot let rpms drop below some 4500. So I have to rev it quite high on the line and then dump the clutch and let slicks do their job. Track is very bad also.
Will RLTC actually help me in this situation? First, I can't let the engine bog down. Second, in the manual it says that I should slip the clutch and if it can't be slipped then change it.
I cannot slip my clutch, so I'm wondering whether RLTC will help me at all? That's a lot of money to spend.
    Please advise!

    Hi Vetal,
    What vehicle have you got?

Generally speaking, to get a good start using 'street' tyres the driver will have to slip the clutch a bit to counter wheel spin. However with a drag focused vehicle equipped with drag radial tyres, the driver should be able to pop or dump the clutch and as you say, "let slicks do their work".

The advantage of the launch control feature in the Racelogic traction control system is that the user can define their own launch rev limit. Therefore you can just plant your foot and let the system hold the revs for you.
Also if you’re running a turbo, the boost pressure should increase slightly while on the launch rev limiter.

The traction control system is completely configurable. You’re able to define a specific setup using the supplied configuration software. For example, you can adjust how much and when the system interferes with the vehicle.

As long as the vehicle has wheel speed signals and electronic fuel injection, our traction control system will work. However, you must make sure the injectors are not low impedance ones (at least 4 ohms)

For you interest here’s a good example of the launch control in action

I'm confident that our traction control system can definitely improve your launch and distance test times but obviously will require a certain amount of testing and tweaking to perfect.

    Regards,
    John.
