Thread: New version 3 VVB Released!

See below for some upgrade info...

Which update files do you need to use?

    * If you are running Version 2 firmware – you need to use the ‘watershed’ upgrade.
This will update your unit to Version 3 and install firmware V3.0.30.

    * If you are running Version 3 firmware – you need to use the ‘firmware only’ upgrade.

Don’t know what version of firmware you are running? Check Help>About in Video VBOX Setup Software, or open a recent VBO file in notepad and look under the 'comments' section.

    * Customers who use NTSC cameras may find that after running the ‘watershed’ upgrade file, their VVB will not accept NTSC scene files. We recommend that all customers who use NTSC cameras should run the NTSC update after running the watershed update to avoid problems.

Note - once the ‘watershed’ file has been used, you will never need to use it again. The Video VBOX will reject the upgrade if you try to run it more than once. For future upgrades, use the ‘firmware only’ files.

How do you run the update?

All VVB updates work in the same way. When you have downloaded the update file, place this on the root directory of an SD card and load the card into the VVB when fully powered. The unit will then upgrade - it will beep when the upgrade is finished. After every upgrade is carried out you must power cycle the box to complete the process. If you are running two updates please remember to power cycle the box in-between upgrades. Failure to do so may result in incorrect operation of the VVB.

... so to check if the upgrade has worked, log a short VBO file (unit does not need SAT lock) and then open this VBO file in notepad.

You will find the firmware version under the [comments] section...

I have upgraded to V3 and it is working well. One item has changed though when I am not logging with my SD card and set the OLED to speed it doesn't display current speed. It used to before the upgrade, is this something that could be added back in on the next firmware?

Hello - pleased the update worked OK

You need to upgrade your OLED display to allow it to work properly with the new V3 firmware and include the new features of Auto Map and Multi scene selection

See page 13 of the OLED manual for instructions on how to do this

Thanks Lucie worked well once I did the upgrade. Might be worth making the OLED firmware upgrade instructions on the main pages as it is different to how everything else upgrades

Excellent pleased to hear it! I think it would be a good idea to add this to the firmware updates section on the VVB Website... I will look into this

    Hi there,
I attempted to update my VVB Lite today, but failed to.
Unit currently has 002.001 build 0019
I followed the instructions several times with the same result:
    - powered up the unit until I can see image from the cameras on the LCD monitor
    - insert an SD card with FIRMWARE General-Release watershed.vidup located at the root
    - wait
    - eventually, the unit starts beeping continously at one second intervals
    - a text file update-failed.txt is written at the root of the SD card. It contains:
    Update bundle extracted OK
    Failed to open update definition
    Update failed.

What should I do ? Thanks for the help.

Hi, this message has been seen before when someone is trying to run the watershed upgrade on a unit that has already been upgraded by this method.

Could you please re-connect to the unit via USB, and use the Help/About section of Video VBOX Setup to confirm that the unit is still version 002.001 build 0019 as you anticipate.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
I am positive that my unit is running 002.001 build 0019, this is at least what Video VBOX Set-up 003.011 tells me when I connect my laptop to it via USB.
Makes sense since I did not do an upgrade yet.

I tried again this morning (this is the 5th time) with the same effect:
    1) boot the VVB, wait for scene to display on LCD
    2) insert SDCard with watershed upgrade
    3) wait
    4) unit starts beeping at 1s interval and writes update-failed.txt file to SC Card root

I don't have an absolute necessity to upgrade, but I am worried about leaving the VVBL on old firmware, not being able to benefit from new goodies and finding myself eventually with an incompatible PC SW/Device FW configuration.

Dare I say I am starting to feel a little suspicious that someone has changed something internally on our server, so maybe the download links do not go to the correct files anymore!

On this little hunch of mine, I wish to send you the wateshed file again, but one I have taken directly from our server (that I know is correct) rather than off the website.

If you can let me know your email address, I will send this to you via a file transfer website.

If you dont want your email on a public forum, you can always email support@racelogic.co.uk and I will pick it up from here

I am having trouble getting the predictive lap time appearing in a scene, the reading stays at zero. When viewing in circuit tools the delta t is working fine. Is there any guidance for setting up the scene?
    Cheers TB

    Hi,

Have you got your OLED display plugged in, and is delta time working on there?
What firmware versions are you running in the Video VBOX and in the OLED?
Please send your scene to support@racelogic.co.uk so our support team and check you have it set up correctly.
