Ihr Spezialgebiet ist das Testen von Reifen und Bremsanlagen. Test World hat drei VBOX-Systeme, die täglich genutzt werden.

Kälte-Tests bringen eine Reihe von einzigartigen Anforderungen mit sich. Optische und Mikrowellen-Sensoren haben Probleme unter solch harten Bedingungen zu arbeiten und das Fifth Wheel verrutscht auf den glatten Oberflächen.

GPS-Sensoren dagegen eignen sich hervorragend für solche Testbedingungen, da einzig die Antenne auf dem Dach extern angebracht werden muss.

Car and Driver have used all types of testing equipment over the years, fifth wheels, optical sensors, and microwave sensors, and now they have taken the next logical step and invested in two VBOX II's using GPS and compact flash storage.

With laboratories located in the grounds of a manor house near Southampton, UK, Roke's past innovations are as diverse as ‘HawkEye’, a sensor system which tracks the flight of a tennis ball and revolutionised television coverage; up to ‘HALO’, an acoustic locator of guns and mortars, designed to detect cease-fire violations in the former Yugoslavia.

This requirement for fast and accurate testing made the ability of LabSat to record and replay real world GPS scenarios for GPS device development useful in a variety of applications.

Based in Norway, Marine systems manufacturer Kongsberg Seatex AS is one of the world's leading international marine electronics manufacturers, providing products for safe navigation and operations at sea.

With equipment designed to be used in marine operations where high positional accuracy is critical, Kongsberg needed a way to repeatedly test the real world performance of their equipment. To do this, they have been using LabSat to test the effects of interference on their new positioning reference system, the DPS 4D, which offers worldwide sub-metre accuracy.

VolvoPenta-boatMarine engine manufacturer Volvo Penta uses the VBOX SL3-marine system to obtain measurements on vessel handling characteristics to optimise their propeller and drive train setups.

Three ground plane antennas were attached to the roof of a boat to obtain simultaneous Pitch, Roll and Yaw data, which is transmitted via Bluetooth to a dashboard mounted Q1 display.

Volvo Penta were attracted to the VBOX SL3-Marine system for its flexibility and accuracy as a precise 3-axis measurement system that can be fitted and working in less than 5 minutes.

The bespoke solution consisted of VBOX II Slip angle sensors, a basestation for DGPS correction with telemetry, and an inertial measurement unit (IMU).

mining-whee-peruPeru has a very large mining industry, commonly using haulage trucks with payloads of 360 Tonnes. These trucks use “giant tyres” which are very expensive and place great demand on natural resources for their production. Another problem with these tyres is that their service life is often cut short due to the tough conditions in which they are used.

RACELOGIC have worked with Mitsui Group company PTS S.A., in Peru to develop an application which can help reduce the strain placed upon these giant tyres. The system uses a 20Hz VBOX II SX to monitor various tyre and vehicle conditions (temperature, distortion, velocity, etc), to determine the optimum drive lines and speeds around the mine site. This helps to preserve the life of the tyres resulting in very significant savings in both money and materials.

Racelogic’s Speed Profiler solution is also put to use in similar applications.

Asking the question “What is the best way to quantify how well a navigation system performs in a realistic testing scenario?” a study carried out by the University of Colorado recently concluded that the record and playback testing method is the most effective.

Evaluating a range of GNSS receivers, the study found that record and playback systems overcome the fidelity limits of purely simulator based testing, especially in difficult to model environments. The study also emphasised the fact that only one drive is required for each location, ensuring testing repeatability.

A LabSat Record and Replay GPS Simulator was used as part of the study, which the University of Colorado had borrowed on a free loan demonstration for their evaluation. As customers of our German dealer Leitspeed since 2006, BMW saw the value of integrating synchronised video with data in one unit as both an educational and promotional tool for their driving schools. BMW now use 25 Video VBOX Lite units for their Driver Training Centres in Germany.

Porsche invited Racelogic to the launch of the new Porsche 911 Turbo at Estoril circuit, Portugal and rented Video VBOX and Video VBOX Lite systems, in order to help promote the new car. 600 journalists attended to test drive the new 500bhp model, and were each given the Video VBOX footage of their drive.

Lexus used Video VBOX to show off the power of their new 500bhp, £250,000 LFA supercar at the launch at Goodwood in July 2010. They let loose a number of journalists in the car around a track which "can charitably be described as having limited run-off..."

Holden Special Vehicles

So for the media launch of their new E series 2 range, Racelogic distributor Protech Developments were asked to provide in-car video and data recording in the form of Video VBOX Pro, to log the performance abilities of the vehicles.
